A playpen is a great helper when you are cooking, talking on the phone or doing something else that also requires your attention. A playpen can easily be made into a cosy place for the little one, with a nice thick mattress at the bottom and perhaps a pram bumper tied to the bars. Although a playpen should preferably not become a “babysitter”, it is a good solution when things get busy from time to time and, for example, the laundry is calling :-)
In addition to keeping baby contained, the playpen can actually also be used as a "practice area" where baby can learn to stand independently using the sides of the playpen.
Some families manage without a playpen, but there is no getting around the fact that it is a great help in everyday life when the little one has started crawling around and wants to explore all the time.
